Just a quick question really.

How much is hay and straw in the south west? I am wondering how much it would cost for a month to bed and feed Mousey (13hh native) and Jazzy (17.2hh warmblood). Per bale (and sizes) costs would be very helpful!

They are currently at livery (Jazzy on full, Mousey on grass) and am trying to work out how cost effective it is!

Thanks,

E x

i very simple terms,
weight your animals
feed horse/pony 2.5% of it`s body weigh.

any bucket feed is included in this,if they are on grazing take some off for that too.if they are too fat take some away or little extra if they need more.

you need to stand back once a week and have a good look or use a weight tape to assess how they are faring.

a small bay of hay can cost between £2 and £5 and weighs about 20 to 25 kgs.
hope this helps a bit.

the balance of forage and hard feed is adjusted depending on work-load.

this is only my method but nobody else answered.

Thanks guys.

Mousey will probably be on limited grazing (needs starvation. Never had laminitis but always on the plump side!) but also lo-cal balancer.

Jazzy is on haylage at the mo but also could do with losing a little weight but isn't looking bad IMHO.

The prices aren't too far off what I had thought :)
