cost of hay/ hay alternatives

In chobham it has gone up to 5.60 fo a bale of hay, and 40 for large hayledge, it is terrible and really hard to get hold of, any ideas where best to source?

i payed £3 for a small bale with more sections than normal last year bu dont know how much it will be this year

Hay is upwards of £6 a bale round here, now. Straw is also starting to get silly. I'm considering stockpiling the shredded paper from work for winter bedding!

I got a load in from last year before everything went stupid at £3 per bale and then sourced a trailer load of this years at £2.50 per bale. I will need a further 100 to see me through to late summer next year but I have run out of storage so will just have to hunt around for it. Prices vary greatly...some suppliers are being silly with prices and others are selling as normal. I have a trailer so I am happy to travel for it if needs be.

Our hay is supplied by the yard I am on and has been £3.25 per small bale for years, but this week we have been notified that this year's hay is going to be £4.50! I think I will have to look around and try to find another supply as with two to feed the increase is going to cost me nearly another £100 per month in the winter.

expect to pay even more for hay, we are seriously considering feeding as much straw to farmstock to eek out haybalesfor horse customers, now wheat prices are set to rise, thanks to russia and pakistan, the extra stock feed we will need will cost us even more and prices will have to be passed on.

Im feeding half hay and half barley straw at the moment to try and keep costs down but gonna be a rough ride over the winter by the sounds of what you guys are saying :/
