Cost of hiring a horsebox or trailer???

I do it about once a month (I can't afford it more often!). It is expensive, but there's no way I could afford to maintain a lorry, nor afford to get a vehivle just for towing (I drive about 75 miles a day so it wouldn't be too economical to just have the towing vehicle!) so I just stick to hiring.

I'd love to get my horse out more but I just can't afford to do it. If you enter 2 classes in an unaffiliated dressage for example (call it £15), you think 'great' but then it costs about £85 to get him there and back, and that's just for about a 30 min trip each way. It's not cheap but unfortunately at present, the only option I have

Trailer hire is much cheaper - about 30 a day, unless you know someone who rent's theirs out. Moved the pony yesterday, and actually got a woman who drove me for the same price as it was from most places to rent a box, 95 quid for a 110 mile round trip for her, which I thought was fantastic, but would only do it when really needed to move the pony, rather than show to show.

Some places have a loyalty scheme where you get more discount the more often you hire. Ive also used one where you pay a set fee for a certain number of rentals per year, which works out a lot cheaper. Haven't tried it myself as I only hire rarely, but to be honest if I had the kind of money to be entering that many shows or competitions, I'd probably try and buy one anyway!

Thanks guys.... pretty much what I thought..... I have the trailer but no tow vehicle so thats not much good
