I am about to approach one or two farmers/contractors in the area about having 2 acres cut for hay - small bales as I have excess grazing and it is growing very well!
Could anyone advise me on the likely charge for this in terms of per acre or per small bale...so that I know what I am looking at before approaching anyone please? Thanks

got to remember on a small area costs increase due to more tuns and time of putting on machnery and turning up.

It's really nice to make your own hay - but do consider where you will be in the 'get the hay baled fast pecking order' when the weather turns nasty.

We used to have contractors in to crop 15 acres but two years in a row our dried crop was rained on - the contractor looked after the big acreages first. We ended up with a second rate crop and had to buy in hay.

Now I buy hay as I can see what I'm getting and know I've got the best.
