I have found someone to part loan my 4 year old gelding for 2-3 days a week, he is in DIY livery at £35 a week then hay, shaving on top normally bill comes in around £200 not including feed or shoes then insurance and everything else on top. With that in mind how much do you think i should be charging her, shes a friend and we are both poor student so mates rates got to be take account for! :) Thanks

I would add up everything including farrier jabs ins etc for a year and divide by 365. That gives you an average daily cost (it's scary) then if your sharer has use of horse 3 days per week she pays 3 x that rate per week. Plus a percentage of any extras like vet excess.

I suspect you'll find 3/7ths of the total annual cost will send your sharer running for the hills!

Depending on where you live, people usually charge £20-£30 a week for 3 days of sharing if they have minimal duties to do. If you expect them to go up twice a day and be fully responsible for all chores 3 days a week you'll be looking at £10-20 a week.

I'd normally say cost of livery, forage, feed, bedding & farrier divided to give a daily rate. But, I think if its a 4yr old, any sharer is going to be bringing the horse on & increasing its value, so depending on how good they are I'd say half that or even free.

Ditto above. At 4yo they're bringing on the horse half and half with you. Something which you'd have to pay someone else to do! But saying that, this person will presumably get the pleasure off being around him also and not just be there to ride. I'd say I'd probably ask for the cost of forage, tops. So probably 10-15 a week.
