hi
just before Christmas remedial farrier attended my horse. he had to do hoof wall resection. he fitted heart bar shoe to give support to remaining hoof wall.
my normal farrier has been this morning and to be honest I was shocked at the cost to remove / trim hoof / refit the heart bar shoe.

what is the "normal" charge for this?

thanks

The few times I have had this type of shoe on they have been fitted by my own farrier so the first time covers the extra cost of them being made, they are not cheap, after that refitting has been the normal charge for refits as it is usually no more work unless there is some filling required where the wall has been removed.

thankyou for your reply - this is what I thought - no filling just refit … was a lot more than a normal refit (3 x more!)

my lad is currently in egg bars, it cost me £140 for a full set the first time and then £70 for a refit (standard price for a set of shoes). There is a lot more work for the farrier than a standard set going into the first time but no more work the second time so my farrier charges the standard for refits.
