Cost of renting a few acres with wooden stables

Am considering, after feeling unsettled for a while at my little yard, that I want to set myself up on my own.
Have spotted some land close to me which has been empty for a long while. It may be totally unavailable but a girl can dream! It is probably a couple of acres with 2 sets of 2 very run down wooden stables. Would certainly need re roofing if nothing else. Its all very overgrown & would need some man power to get it sorted. Luckily I have some! ;):D It has no water & electric but again I have access to a water butt cheaply & a generator - this doesnt bother me. It also needs some fencing.
So if by some miracle, I manage to find the owner (this is OH's mission for the day!) how much do you think it would cost to rent out something of this size?

It would most likely depend who owns it and what there plans are for it if any, where it is... on the edge of a town or city it could be worth a fortune or out in the sticks not much. so if you can find the owner maybe you can work something out that would suit both parties.. good luck.
 
I'd agree, it will vary greatly depending on what part of the country you're in. My friend & i rent a yard of 2 acres with 4 wooden stables, has running water which is fab but electricity only off a genny & we pay £240 per month (every 4 weeks). We used to have a bigger place, 7 acres, 10 stables and big hay barn, no electric or running water here though and that was £400 per month. Old yard was towards Birmingham & new one is towards Wolverhampton in the West Midlands. Hope that helps some :)

Am in the midlands. Its land in the country really - am just off J24 of M1. Its between villages. There are a couple similar set ups further down the lane. Although they are in use with a couple of ponies on.
There is no chance it could be used as building land.
It is a long shot I know, but you never know!
OH has found out the name of the person who owns it - not a farmer (which I was hoping for!), so may be harder to track down than I thought!
Might try popping down to the other yard & ask if they know of them.
 
I rent 4 acres with running water but no power and pay £50 pounds a month, too be fair the land is owned by my hubbies old boss and they are just glad they have found someone who keeps the fence and land tidy. I have built my own stable and have now had a feed attatched and plan to build another smaller stable on the end of them.
I also rent some other fields of the local authorities they charge approx £110 per acre per year, but with all the development of houses land is getting sparse and they are starting to charge more and more each year. Authorities also charge an admin charge of around £50 per field per year they also do not like you building stables on the land unless they are of a good quality and do not look tatty etc.
 
Yes I love it there the grass is not of the greatest quality but with natives who cares, also it the wierdest shaped field I have seen there are flat bits and steep banks and is the shape of the letter U.
Give your local authority a ring if you have no joy with the little yard your after, you never know what they have got up for rent, the only down side to having your own rented land that is not next to your house is security.
I,m lucky although my land is in a built up area it is surrounded by scrub land that would cut you in two with nettles and blackthorn, and the lane is private and gated off.
 
Yes that would be a downside - but there are similar set ups near by so I am assuming it is relatively safe. And just a couple of minutes from me, so no problem to do late checks.
OH has found where the lady who owns it works! Amazing what you can find out in a small village!
For some reason, because its a lady owner I am feeling less positive that they may want to rent it out - I have no idea why! Maybe its because I thought it might be owned by some old farmer who might just want to see it used! lol.
 
A friend has just given up a 2 acre field in Shropshire, it had reasonable fencing, two fairly ok stables, with a lean-to for feed. No electricity or water. Was paying £15/week
 
im paying £50 a month for 2 stables (had to put doors on them) 3 fields so 6-9 acres approx maybe more only using one field at mo which is the smallest one of 2.1/2 acreas as have 3 fat ponies who can live on nothing and in one of the fields which i will use in winter it has a shelter in it with a floor as well so could be a 3rd stable if needed.I also have water on site and a tack room we put in just no electricity.
