A friend of mine suspects her horse may have ulcers - he displays some, but not all, of the signs. So took him to the horspital and came away with lots of advice, prescription for gastroguard and an estimate of £800 for scoping to get a definitive diagnosis.

This includes overnight stay, sedation etc etc but sounds a little on the pricey side to me!!!!:eek::eek:

Has anyone recently had a scoping for ulcer diagnosis? How much were other people's bills? Also, where in the country are you.

Thanks in advance!

Gastrogard £173.25 for 7 days worth had 4 boxs of it in total
Sedation - £29.38
Scope, advice and report - £374.98
visit from normal vet to sedate for the scope - £35.25
So that comes to just over £1,300 for treatment and scope done last year. Was done at home as less stress for horse at that time.

Massively less than either of those! Gastroscopy £159.14, sedation £27.68. Done by one of the leading vets dealing with gastric ulcers in the UK at a top referral practice. Report/advice with pictures from video scope sent out as part of the service.

The £800 sounds more like a bill for Gastrogard (which is massively overpriced) than a cost for scoping TBH, are you sure you/your friend isn't getting confused?

tbh, no! :p

she bought a week's worth of gastroguard (shocking price!!) though had a script for a month's worth. So maybe you are right and they meant the total treatment.

Will check with her and pass on these experiences.

Thanks both!

I'd recommend Coligone rather than Gastroguard. It's brilliant stuff and I've seen it turn many stress-head TBs into happy chappies almost overnight. It's almost identical to Gaviscon for humans. The peppermint powder is extremely palatable if introduced sensibly and works out at pence per day when on maintenance dosage. PM Hs_mum on this forum for advice.
