Cost of sedation for clipping

I 'think' my vet charges £30 for sedation and a £15 injection fee and then a time fee and call out on top!

ETA my horse only needs a sniff off the stuff and shes away with the faries!

That sounds about the norm for a vet visit though i'm afraid. Did the vet stay a while to make sure the horse was OK.

Have you tried a low level sadative like sedalin, which you can just buy from the vet for a few pounds, or twitching him? A twitch works wonders on my horse.

Sedaline doenst work and neither does a twitch. I wish they bloody did though, it would save me a fortune, I have two to do twice a year!

Recently had one sedated for the dentist. Bill came to just under £100. £35 for the call out, £30 for the injection, £20 odd for the drugs and then VAT.

When Bear had his teeth done me and freind went halves on call out, he was sedated and teeth. It cost me about £80 I think.
Which was quite reasonable really, if you think teeth alone is about £40.

I took my boy to the vet last week and he had one injection then a top up and it was £26.00 but of course I travelled there. A call out would have been £30 plus time too i guess.

Im waiting on the bill but the estimate is approx £200 - started off with 15 ACP (didn't touch him at all), then two attempts at getting the IV thingy in (no luck), then IM injection which did work enough to get the IV thingy in, then the IV drugs, which were topped up once, and the vet stayed throughout which lasted about 2 hours, along with the £53 callout charge in the first place.

Needless to say when the coat grows back, it won't be getting clipped again this season.

Please send money, booze and valium....
