Hi all

My daughter has gone to university so we are unfortunately selling the horses. However we are left with 4 very large stables, an immaculate yard, a 20x60 arena, a cross country course and a set of poly jumps, 6 large post and rail fields and extensive hacking round the estate.. So i'm thinking of renting them out for DIY livery, can anyone tell me what the going rate it? Would £40 per week be about right baring in mind the facilites we have? Any advice would be much appreciated,

Many thanks in advance! X :)

Hmm, don't do it Mrs C is my advice. DIY isn't worth the hassle for the YO. Yes, there are some wonderful liveries out there but there's an awful lot who expect to own the place for £40 a week.

Does that include hay/haylage and bedding? IME you're better off charging for that separately, if it's included you'll find your muck heap full of good bedding and hay that's just been on the floor.

Factor in your maintenance costs. People generally don't realise it costs money to grow grass and maintain paddocks, schools and buildings.

If you've got four different owners, or even only two, who's going to make the rules and keep the peace?

You may be better renting the yard to just one person. How close is the yard to the house?

£40 quid a week sounds OK for the facilities you have but I'd be inclined to keep my privacy for the sake of £160 a week less expenses.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do.

Depending on where you are it sounds about right, assuming it includes water/elec and basic maintenance.

You might be better off renting the 4 stables as a whole and being very careful to vet the person. Might offer you a bit more privacy and less hassle long term

Where are you located? Location has a big bearing on cost.

Agreed with other posters that you may be best to rent to one person unless you are prepared to put some time in making and enforcing the rules.

Sounds like a lovely set up though.
