Don't know about switzerland, but I looked into transporting my horse to oz last year and it was going to be about £8000.
So I left my horse at home, but am coming back soon thankfully! From my price I would guess at 1500 - 2000 for yours? as I guess you'll be able to put it on a boat and not fly.
I had a horse imported from Germany last year which cost £128 export Vet Inspection from Germany £450 for transporting her over. I would ring some of the big named importers as they travel regularly each week from Switzerland, Germany, Holland & France so their prices are fairly good.
Contact an international shipping company for a quote - its the only way you'll get a realistic price breakdown.
I brough my horse to denmark with us and it was 1000 pounds. However, this was for single transport as i didnt want anything else on the box with him. (This cut down drammatically on his travelling time as i was quoted 5 days from parkers which i thought was unfair).
The large european transport companies had 20 horse boxes. I was quoted 450 to take him to denmark on one of those. As i mentioned, that was a 5 day trip though with stop overs at various places in Europe (something which i wasnt happy about since there are no regulations regarding vaccinations of horses travelling) and they couldnt give me any details of where he'd be staying.
You'll need to arrange travel insurance prior to the horse leaving. Some companies offer minor insurance for the death of the horse in transit. This usually covers you for about 1000 pounds back if the horse dies during travel.
Paper work also has to be sorted out before the horse can leave its destination. The transport company who moved Jack did most of this for me, although he did need a health inspection within 24 hours of travelling. This then had to be faxed to Defra.
Individual travel was definitly an option we dont regret. Jack was monitored throughout the journey since the driver only had one horse to worry about. He had rugs changed at night also which eased my mind quite a lot.
I have got mine coming in tomorrow from the Czech Republic and it is costing me £600 this is with there own transport and them dealing with all health checks etc. But they do have lorries leaving every 2 weeks with the horses that are being exported.
Thank you so much everyone I had no idea. We are going over on Wednesday and they have quite a few lined up for us to see so fingers crossed there is one that will suit our purposes.
