Sorry, I know it’s been done before, but I can’t find an up to date thread.
If I bought a secondhand 3.5 Horsebox what other costs on a monthly or yearly basis do I need to consider and how much would they be please?

For a 3.5t you’re looking at tax, mot, insurance with recovery, and servicing on an annual basis, plus depending on age you’ll want a contingency pot for any unexpected repairs that crop up.

Specifics will very much depend on the age/cost of the box you go for. For the last 8 years we had a 2008 Alexander, insurance was around £200 a year, tax £260, at a guesstimate it probably had about 5-6k of repairs during the time we had it. We now have a 21 plate Theault, tax was around £360, insurance just under £800.

For my 3.5 ton box, road tax is £345 per year. Insurance is £309 per year, recovery £125.00.
In the last12 months I've had to have a v.costly sensor replaced, think it cost around £500 all in, but it has sailed through every mot since I've had it. It's a 2018 model
I'm selling it though as I don't use it enough

i pay about £22 in insurance a month, £30 or so tax, i pay the recovery upfront which this time was less than £150. it costs nearly £100 to fill it up, however the last time i did that was june for camp and im only now sitting on about 1/3 of a tank, and i use it a couple of times a week! however there’s always something with it😂 £600 for the MOT this year, then a week later my gas strut came off the top door so it had to go back to be bolted back on! especially if you’re looking at an older one, be prepared for the random issues that pop up with an old vehicle - mine is 2006 chassis but the conversion is only 8 or so years old.

i love mine and it’s given me so much more confidence going out alone, although i’d still prefer to reverse a trailer😂 but it’s definitely more stress than a trailer!

I’d budget about 1.5-2k per year for tax, insurance, recovery, repairs & diesel.

You’ll have years it sails thru the MOT with nothing doing & you’ll have years where it fails the MOT & needs work doing on the horse bit as well.

Priceless, obviously not really, but I’ve had a. 3.5t for approximately 7 years and i love the freedom it gives me. I have a small economical cheap runaround car so i can ‘justify’ it to myself, not that i feel i need to anymore as i use it regularly
