Anyone here aiming for this?
Anyone here did this last year? How was it?

(It's been many years since I've ''evented'', and am quite taken by the idea of this with my mare, who is far more capable than I!)

It’s just a well run ODE, feels pretty much identical to BE. Done loads of them but don’t aim at them. I just use them as stepping stones for other things as better placed in the calendar than local BE or at a location I like. Though unaff is now more expensive than BE! £99 for a 100 class is insane. It actually has pushed me down the BE path again.

Gatcombe and Oxstalls are now back under the BE banner and not running Cotswold Cup. It's just an unregulated unaffiliated series.

Both are run by Charles Etherington-Smith. I was surprised they had gone unaff in the first place which tells you how annoyed they were with BE. At least BE is sorting out a bit of its mess it had created in the first place as the Sept Gatcombe date is to replace Monmouth and Pontispool who have gone Unaff.

I’m aiming for this with my pony! Just the 70 as I’ve not competed for 5+ years (and even then only made it round a handful of 80s), and pony has never competed. But they’re fairly local and will be nice to have something consistent to train towards.

We’re entered at Waverton in April. Might be a bit soon (to date, the most XC my pony has done is jumping hunt fences in the forest, but we will go out a few times before), but got to start somewhere!

Waverton is a lovely flat course and a good introduction if you and the pony need to build confidence.

I am North so targeted Brigante Cup last year instead. But I think it is a similar concept: I loved having a series of events aimed at qualifying for a Championship. It gave the season structure and kept me interested. The courses were all run at BE venues and were of very high standard.

I love the series- everything well run and communicated, good courses and amazing prizes!
Easy to enter, easy to find times, instant scoring available and lovely 'big park' venues like Waverton and Great Tew.

It's not more expensive than BE when you factor in BE membership or ticket costs...

Yes, I did note this. Which means that at least a fairly major part of the initial driving force of CC is largely not involved anymore?

Gatcombe is a big deal anyway - that's a real selling point for getting people back on board with BE.

Yep, I got cash, lovely branded top, huge crate of Hawkstone cider and a free copy from Equireel of my XC round.

I won another unaffiliated last year too with another series and I won 1 x Flair strip, that was it... if my horse needed a Flair strip for a 90cm, I'm not sure he'd have got round the course!

Brilliant re the Flair strip. Yes friend got cider too. Can’t remember what else but know it was impressive.

Not taken part myself as not an eventer but have been on a few of the official photography teams. I also photograph quite a few BE events and from my point of view (although I understand will be different from the competitor's) they seem on par in terms of organisation, running, quality of fences and ground etc etc. It has certainly grown massively in popularity in a very short space of time! (On a slightly different note though I think its becoming a bit hard pushed to be calling it the Cotswold cup now that venues are as far north as solihull...)

Haha I won the other organiser at 100 and got a flair strip, sponsors rubbish woolly hat and a massage brush type thing. Probably £4.50 worth of prizes!!

Well there was a legal case going on about it but I think that has all gone quiet. MES seems to have stepped away from CC now and back to BE.

To be fair, I came 5th at Eland lodge and got a £50 voucher for their tack shop in the BE100 a few years ago, which was definitely pretty decent!

I was surprised to see it would cost 99 to enter the 100 at Pontispool. That's more expensive than my most recent BE entry (obviously not including the membership fee).

My daughter came 2nd one year and won a box of Plusbac prebiotic liquid. Would have been good but it was past its sell by date!
