Cottage Craft girths?

no they haven't changed at all, but I think that is probably why they're not so popular now as most of the manufacturers have changed and seemingly invested more in research into more anatomical designs and modern fabrics - or maybe they've just got better at marketing :o

They have changed, they're not quite the same as they used to be. I sold my newer one on Ebay and went back to the old one. You'll probably find some old style ones on there.

i would never ride in one personally, mu first ever pony had one that came with her but we bought a new one immediately, here's why:
-they arnt elasticated elasticated which i really dont like, think about it, it must be so more comfy with elastic (make sure its elastic on BOTH sides to avoid uneveness)
-they arnt curved: very very un comfortable.
-old fashioned:when you have girths such as the fairfax and WOW girths available these days, why are people still using these?
-they are a nightmare to clean: they can only be machine washed or using a brush which takes FOREVER! :)

if a fairfax or wow girth is too expensive (i wouldnt blame you, just look at the price!!) i would recomend a tekna girth, they are elasticated, shaped, breathable and waterproof, and last ages! you dont even need to wash/soap them as they can be cleaned with water/hosed down. :D

How hard is it to stick something in the washing machine?? An some might say thst elasticated girths aren't the most comfortable for horses as they can be over tightened (my personal fave is my leather shaped humane girth, much better than elastcated IMO). The older CC girths had a section on each side where there was no webbing, this was the area of 'give' which AFAICR, the new ones don't have.

My horse goes best in the old cottage craft girths with a fleece sleeve over the top. I don't like elasticated girths as it's too easy to overtighten them. Washing the cottage craft and fleece is a breeze - I pop them into a bucket of cold water, then wring and rinse the fleece out a few times. The girth has a light scrub on the concrete with a nailbrush, another few dunks and rinses in the bucket, then both onto the line. Takes me 3 minutes to wash and hang both, and often it's just the fleece I'm washing.

its easier to just hose something down. with an elasticatex girth, careless people can over tighten it, but with a bit of thought, they are fine. that still doesnt solve the problem of the un shaped ness/cut back behind the elbow. why get a cottage craft when you could get a tekna for almost the same price.

I like the fact they are not elasticated but have plenty of give being fabric. I have a round horse so it needs to be fairly snug and not keep stretching, I have one of those elasticated wintec girths and it drives me insane as I have to do it up like 6 times or there's daylight between!

I don't have a problem with elbow interference as my horse has quite a set back girth groove. I honestly find them better than the more expensive ones I have tried.

I've found some horses don't like the atomically shaped girths either - the pressure sensation is quite different and suits different types. In particular, ponies that are conformationaly 'rotund' seem to be much happier in a straight cotton girth than in something that's shaped or elastic.
