cough

My horse has recently had a cough its not everyday but when I start out hacking he will clear himself and then ok I always put this down to change of season but yesterday he was realy stiff he always go's down like a dog when he comes out of stable to strech but he did this yesterday and then wouldn't move to be tied up about 5 steps when I got on him at first if he wasn't such a gentleman he would have bucked me off as his back came up so I let him strech and walk but even when we got home he was anciouse (sorry can't spell !!)
Has any one else had a seasonal cough yet hes out 24/7 at the moment in a sheltered field rugged up, many thanks.

Mmm, our horse has had a cough too, he was put on anti b's for a week and I thought it had gone but it hasn't. He seems to cough when I ask him to come on the bit, but it is more of a clearance cough than anything.
Think I will be speaking to my vet again.

Mine has got the same type of thing, when i ask him to work he starts coughing. He seems to do this every year at this time. I put him onto resperize (sp?) supplement for a few months and it seems to help. He is fine for the rest of the year - must be something in the air!

My horse developed a cough a few weeks ago although he's out 24/7 because the field behind ours had been cut for very late hay. This stirred up allsorts of dust and pollens and he was'nt the only horse affected. I'm not sure that the stiffness is related so a vet check would be best.

Took him cross country this morning with hunt and he didn't caugh at all felt much better my YO said he was taking the P-ss hes now rising 8 and I will have to get behind him Im too soft !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Deefa, does your horse cough up phlegm as well? Boo did yesterday morning, although it was quite clear!

No, not really. Just coughs up peices of chewed grass (eww) he is out 24/7
