Hi,

Just looking for some advice. My Lab Paddy who is 6 stayed with my mum over the weekend whilst i went away. He is a rescure and the first time he has stayed away from our house since we have had him since the end of January.

I rang my mum after 2 -3 hours and she stated he has been coughing up bile and flem, he has done this before and was after a walk and it was quite a hot day. But this has continued over the weekend and i have picked him up today. Apparently saturday night kept them awake most of the night as he was constantly coughing. He has been back at home for a couple of hours and has coughed a little bit but not alot.

He has done this before but only after a good walk and only once not over a couple of days.

Do you think it could be caused by stress of us leaving him, kennel cough? He was indoors so dont know if that is possible.

He was with my other dog at my mums, the reason i am asking is as i am worried as he is going in kennels at the weekend for a week on his own. My mum cant really cope with both for a week and he is the more chilled and was fine when in kennels when we got him. The two dogs get on but are not close.

Sorry for the longwinded explanation. Do you think it could b caused by stress?

Obviously if persists we will take him to vets tomorrow.

Thanks

Hi, I would have the vet do a workup: good listen to his heart
lungs, abdomen. Have him check his throat. Have a complete
CBC and then give the vet his worming history. I realise you
haven't had him very long. Perhaps you could get additional
history from the rescue centre (if that's from where he was
acquired). He might have an underlying problem that is exacerbated by stress. How often is he fed? Throwing up bile can be a symptom of hunger. Coughing can be a symptom of a
worm load, or possible heart problems.

Good luck!

Thanks for replying. He is fed twice a day morning and night so hope he isnt still hungry ha but he is a labrador so who knows ha! The rescure centre at time adopted stated they werent aware of any health problems but they might not have been told as often the case . It is quite a rasping cough so likely to be linking to his lungs he does get out of breath quick quickly but he does have a 18 month old to keep up with.

Will get him to the vets if it persists probably take him for an mot anyway.
