my 15yr old mare has had about 4 courses of ventipulmin and 4 of anti -biotics for her respratory problem but as soon as the treatment is finished her cough and wheezing comes back, she has her hay thoroughly soaked, is out most of the day and is bedded down on aubiose this has been an ongoing problem for the last 2 years now and i'm at the end of my tether does anyone know of any natural remedies that really work?

I went through alot of different things with my old gee gee,and the only thing that worked for him was Winergy Ventilate. It isn't that cheap but worked wonders.
Good luck.

Ask your vet about using a human steroid inhaler (beclamethasone) +/- a human bronchiodilator (ventolin) given with a paediatric spacer. This can have dramatic effects in horses with chronic allergic respiratory disease and is loads cheaper than ventipulmin, which only works in a proportion of horses anyway.

i used to have the same prob with my boy re the space and steriod, but with lots of ressurance and continually trying, can now do it and puff while holding over his nose without someone half dying in the process. I don't even need a head collar now.

The vets at Leahurst really helped as after 2 /3 weeks i was tearing my hair out, but they were right when they said try, try and try again. the thing that helped most initially, was puffing first before putting it on his nose. Rewards after also helped. Then puffed next 2 him, then on nose!!! All took 3 months, but has really helped his breathing.
