We noticed yesterday that our pony has a slight nasal discharge and a cough. She is her normal perky and greedy self so obviously feeling fine in her self. She has been out 24/7 for the last week so has eaten no dry hay in this time. Could it possibly be an allergy to something in field? Her vaccinations are all up to date and no other horse in the field is showing the same symptoms! Obviously I will call vet out if cough doesn't improve but thought someone on here might have an idea on what might be the problem. thanks!

I had the same with mine a couple of weeks ago. I put him on Aloe Vera Juice and cough has gone. I know a lot of people and horse all suffering from Hay Fever at the moment so probably just an allergy. According to my vet white snot is mild inflammation and more likely to be an allergy.

keep an eye on your pony's respiratory rate too. mine had the vet out a couple of years ago with what i thought was just a cough that had gone round the yard and it ended up being an allergy that alsocaused inflammation of the lungs. never found out what it was but has had impaired breathing since and has to be managed as best as possible. white nasal discharge is the sign of an allergy. my boy has a supplement to make him cough and loosen up the mucus. this proceeds in a very thick white discharge!

I get mine from Waitrose!! They have an offer of 3 for 2. Yoy can feed up to 150ml a day but I feed 25mls am and pm. Holland and Barrett also do it.
