Coughing Dogs---- when to go to vet?

My Jack russel cross has had a cough for about 6 weeks. Its mostly durng the night but occasionally during the day.

he was eating the other day and ws coughing a little then.

the cough is very dry not kennel cough sounding shorter and dry,

any ideas????

How old is he? He could have a heart problem.

Best to take him along to the Vet and get hom checked out.

Take him to the vet. It could be heart or it could also be something stuck or irritating his throat. Grass blades are common or bits of stick.

I would take him to the vets and get him checked out.
Coughing for that length of time is not good. My little ESS was doing that and he has now been diagnosed with Chronic Bronchitis.

Though I doubt it is the same thing my dog developed a cough and I left it for a couple of days until she coughed up lots and lots of blood, turned out to be she had gotten hold of rat poison and lungs were bleeding inside out, thank goodness after a very scary week and ongoing treatment we managed to save her. But I felt so guilty for taking enough notice of the small signs.....

sunny08 that is terrible you poor thing. did you find out how your dog got to the rat poison?
