Hi all
Is anyone else experiencing coughing fits in their ponies/horses over the past 2 or so weeks.
I have just bought my 2 mini shitlands in as the one is hacking like a 20 a day smoker.
He has never coughed like this before and the other one who does get a little croaky at times is having the odd cough as well. I have called the vet who cant come out till tomorrow but when I talked to him he said that he has never known anything like the levels of tree pollen causing trouble. He has lots of coughing going on...
Friends pony is as well but not as bad and my TB has watery eyes and a little snot .
Little shitland has slitty eyes and a bit messy but temp is fine ( I cant even revisit taking his temperature,...it will stay with me forever) and is bright in himself.
Anyone else suffering.....I have to say i have just reached for the pump as my asthma is bad today..
Thanks all

Tree pollen in winter? Would be much more likely to be a virus going around. Just as with humans, make sure everyone is comfortable.
Where you can, keep an eye on temperature.
For mucky noses a little Vaseline smeared around the nostrils will help protect the skin, also smear on legs too as they often wipe their gooby noses on their legs! No pockets for hankies!
A little Vicks Vapour Rub inside the false nostril helps breathing.

Check dust levels of the bedding, spray with water if it's a bit dry, could explain your asthma being worse, mine gets worse with weather changes.

If nasal discharge changes colour to yellowish or greenish then there is a secondary infection that needs antibiotics.

Benelyn cough mixture is good, we used to use it for anyone coughing.

It's the tree mould that can affect humans. My youngest suffers every september. He's not been diagnosed with asthma but we were issued with inhaler for him from doctors who said it can be bad and they see lots of cases. This could be the trouble with your ponies. Hope they get better soon. I remember sending my husband for cough medicine for one of the horses once. He asked why I wanted him to get some, my answer was because the horse can't!!!! ;)

My AAD horse is currently having to have 6 puffs of his reliever and 6 puffs of his preventor before being ridden and another 6 puffs of his preventor in the evening/morning if I ride late. He's normally 6 puffs of his preventor just once a day. He's now the only one that's not coughing.

I'd get your vet out to have a quick look if I'm honest.
