Our horse had the H&T op about 5wks ago. All has been fine with the healing etc.. Yet to see the full benefit once we start fittening work.
But what I wanted to ask was..
How often does your horse cough? And do they ever produce any nasal discharge much/not much/not at all?
Ours hasn't coughed much and no discharge until a couple of days ago. It is usually in the morning and during breakfast (fed off the floor BTW). The discharge will clear itself and get no-more, meaning it is not continueous. The coughing is infrequent but slightly more than the last few weeks, again mainly during hard feed eating.
He is still himself with no change in his well being. I would have thought if there was an obstruction he would be feeling and looking pretty ill?
So is this normal?? Will this improve with fittness?
The discharge yesterday was a runny grass green, when he was eating some lush grass momentarily in hand. The discharge in the morning was a thick pale yellow. It is not a lot but enough and different to make me feel concerned.
We have not experienced this op before, so don't know what is and what isn't normal?
All replys welcome, need to get an idea. Thanks.

hi my horse was hobdayed n tied bac prior to me buying him, iv always found he doesnt cough very much but always had a really thinck mucous come out of his nose when i rode him or during the night early moring, tour right its not contagious but believe me when ur at a competition alot of people will complain about it, which can be very embarressing let alone frustrating. but now since weve had our own yard and is bedded on sawdust and really gd quality haylage he barely ever has a dirty nose, but hes retired now and im sure if i did any exercise with him he prob wud produce some mucus again

Hi,
My boy had a hobday 5 years ago and he has a few coughs whilst he is warming up and occasionally after a good blast he will cough.
We had the vet check him out and he says he is just clearing himself and not to worry too much just make sure everything is as dust free as possible.
I found the fitter D got the less he would cough but the vet said he would probably always cough whilst warming up. I guess some horses do and some don't

Ok, thanks guys, I think I may have been over reacting? Just a worried mummy. Eating his tea tonight we had no cough or discharge. Though dare say it will happen again on another occasion. He is bedded on shavings and soaked hay + haylege. Soon to live out so I expect that will help too. Thanks.
