Over the last week my cob has developed a cough i wouldn't normally be as worried but it is getting no better and is becoming quite deep and effecting his riding and is even occuring when in the field or being groomed does anyone have any ideas on how to get rid of this cough or shall i contact my vet? :)

Agree with the 2 above posts. Been through this a couple of months ago he prob needs meds now to clear it up, espacially if he is heaving. My vet says its been a really bad year for coughs in the area i live so you are not alone.

Agree with all above - in the meantime change bedding, check hay etc.
Good luck. Don't let the vet fob you off with an inhaler - just change your stable management to be as dust free as possible.

We have had a spate of coughing on our yard. Both of mine have had it and the vet was called and both were put on ventapulmin - expensive, but good! The vet said she had been to lots of coughing and itchy horses over the last few weeks and put it down to the dry weather.

Hope your pony gets better soon :)

A bit more information would probably help us. Is the horse stabled? Have you changed hay recently? Is he staying in more? Any change in routine? What is his bedding?

Personally, if he is stabled then I would turn him out or soak his hay for 10 mins, damp down bedding a bit.

If he is out - call the vet immediately.

My mare gets a cough and quite a nasty one at that when stabled with dry hay - as soon as I soak the hay .... no cough!

He lives out all summer and only eats hay on the rare occasion, I am going to contact my vet later on today as he is becoming a little intolerent exercise thanks for all your guidenece
