Just wondering. . . could i feed someting for a kind of instant energy. .

Or feed somthing that would be good for enrgy levels but not fattening. .. ?

Im just after a bit of energy. . .as the grass seems to be making my lad lazy etc. .

Any advice would be great. .

you need to change over slowly to let the gut flora adjust to the different feed otherwise you risk colic. Change the feed over a period of 5 to 7 days, by the time your feeding nearly all new feed you should start to feel a difference.

I had success in the past with Dengie naked oats and Spillers power cubes (a race horse feeed).

I would think you would see a difference in about a week.

Is he dropping in weight at all?
Do you ride him straight from the field? If the grass is making him lazy then perhaps stand him in for a bit before you ride?

What type is he? You could end up with more problems if you start feeding him high energy feed on top of a lot of grass.

Well im of to feed store tmoz so i will have a little nosey around for some ideas. .

He is out over night and in all day and i ride him in the evenings. . . so he gets the whole day to rest. . .

He is putting on weight. . not much but since he has gone out overnight he has gotten a slightly bigger belly.

He is a middleweight conni x. . . not fizzy at all. . .

He doesnt cope with the heat at all. . . he is pretty fit. . . but just sweats up because of the heat and can become sluggish. . . he thrives in cold weather. . .

hmmm

Some other suggestions are if weight is an issue and he is putting weight on (which won't help him in the energy department!) you could try a grazing muzzle, you are already doing the right thing by turning out by night as the protein levels of grass at night is lower than it is in day I believe. A grazing muzzle will limit in his intake overnight, an endurance cob at ours has one on and her weight is fab.

The other thing you could try is a full clip. I know some people might shout be down for the suggestion, but there are alot of competition yards who clip all year round, if the horse sweats alot in its summer coat then there is no harm in taking it off aslong as you can rug up according to weather and temperature. It may help him to feel a little fresher and in turn more energetic.
