I already have a JR who is nearly 3, have had him since he was 5 weeks old as i rescued him from some Travellers.
He was very poorly when i got him so me and my lovely old greyhound become mum1 and mum2!
Now lovely old greyhound has had to be pts, and although JR isn't pining i would like to get another dog.
Now the problem, he is quite territorial and a bit big for his boots but after a while does settle and play with older dogs.
Would it be fair to introduce a puppy?
Have been looking at whippets and JR/JR x's, so do you think it work?
Any input gratefully received

I don't see why not, aslong as you allow him time out, and maybe crate train the puppy, so he can have this time out, if he shows any sharp or aggressive behaviour towards the puppy, which he could at first, as long as you are always there to supervise, u can reprimand, and show him what u deem unacceptable towards the puppy, and vice versa, keep the puppy from irritating the life out of him

It mayb be worth bearing in mind, it's not uncommon for an adult to become protective when a new puppy is introduced, again other dogs, esp when out walking, or when they come into your hom , so again, step in to reprimand this behaviour if it begins to show, make it clear, thats, it's your job to do the protecting

Yes. I agree with Cala.
Also I would put the puppy in the crate in a room before the dogs meet. Then let your dog in, he can sniff and interact with the puppy without them doing any harm. Then as Cala said let them meet each other out of the crate. After an hour or so, or when the puppy annoys him or he starts to act dominant, give them time out. put the puppy in the crate.
Also make sure you dont let you older dog feel left out, make sure you spend time alone with the older dog so he doesnt get jealous.
