Well Star has as you know been rocovering from a bone spavin in her hind hock, diognosed in March. Well she had treatment for it which was Tildren and steroids...which the vet did say there was a very small chance of that bringin on lami. She's never had it before...

Well the past week she's has began living out, bar coming in for a few hours, but she's not been right when ridden. Shes not lame as such, but appears a bit stuffy on front and on the corners/bends she hops and strides funny???? Speaking to others who have had lami horses, they said this could be lami?
The grass in the field is very good, but she is muzzled durin the day, out at night!

From Sunday ive started keeping her in durin the day with minimal hay and have the vet coming in the morn to check her hock anyway! Anyway...what does people think, is this a sign??

I would call the Vet quickly and have them out or a chat as the Steroids can trigger it off, grass and also favouring another foot ..... it does not sound good with what you say she is doing on the turns, as that was the first I knew about my boy's Laminitis

<<< good luck vibes >>>

Iatrogenic laminitis usually comes on within 24 hours of the steroid injection, or so I thought, and usually quite severely, so if your girl does have laminitis it is unlikely to be due to this.

Personally I don't think what you describe sounds like laminitis, but probably just as well you have the vet coming, just to make sure.

ETS I probably don't have as much experience of laminitis as other people on this board, have only seen quite severe cases, so if other people have had horses show similar signs to yours then maybe it is that

Yeh vet is coming tomoz and ive took her straight of the grass all day....yeh i did wonder whether it would actually be the steroids as this was prob over 2months ago now and a small amount! Hmmm ive never really kept her out 24/7 so maybe now cause i have this year its come on???

Steroids are relatively quick - mine was stiff and shuffling within 3 days and then chronically lame 5 days after a jab. (I should have noticed he was shuffling prior to day 5, so I'm a bit embarassed)

Has your horse been shod lately??
Our loan pony which we only had for 6 weeks showed similar signs and I was paraniod it was lami, as he had had it about 10yrs ago when out on lush grass.
But he had been shod 4 days before, so I called the farrier who took his shoes off and hoof tested him, although he was sore he didn't show any other classic signs ie weight shifting, standing on heels, warm feet, strong digital pulse etc so the shoes were put back on and I box rested him for another 3 days and he was fine. So we put it down to tight shoes and a bit of concussion. 5 weeks on he is 100% but next week we'll see what happens once re shod.
If your horse doesn't show any other signs I'd be inclined to say it's not lami, but obviously your vet will tell you.
Got my fingers crossed for you and Good Luck!

Mrs Magoo: what did the vet say? I hope your girl is better. Just interested to hear what the outcome is as struggling with my ponio atm... (though we dont think its lami, but struggling to turn is a symptom) xx

Had the vet out - doesnt reckon it's lami and from the flexion tests she is deffo lame on her front right...grrr it was her hock before now we're on the front lol!!! Not quite sure what it is yet, ive been keeping her durin the day now and vet wanted me to ride her again to exactly feel if she was lame on the right under saddle etc.

Rode her tonight and deffo lame, seemed a bit worse then before but this could be cause of standing in. It was actually worse on the left rein! Sooo left a message with vet to see what next step is. Bloomin horses......
