could my youngster be a november foal?

I know 'generally' mares foal spring/summer, however i had a foal come to me back in march who was in a bit of a state, he had no mum with him (he was going for slaughter) and no one knows who or where his mum is, who bred him etc. friends of mine reckon he was about 4/5 months old then, which would have made him an october/november foal, is this likely?
he is a little cob that was very thin but fluffy, lice infestested innocent little boy who knew pretty much nothing about the world and had a real baby face. he is now a much bigger happy bold chap but as silly as it sounds i would like him to have some sort of 'birthday'. his tail is growing out now but it was very foal like when he came to me and he looked very young in the face. is it possible for him to have been born then? or is he a summer foal that was just badly neglected and in need of some tlc and is therefor well behind in his development? i had two yearlings staying with me for a couple months over the summer who were born april and august and they looked much older than my boy. IF his mum was left to run in a herd with a stallion all year round then could he be a late autumn/early winter baby? i know that most winter foals are born through breeding programmes because the mare is left under lights and how the daylight affects their seasons etc, but could my baby boy be a naturally late foal?
If anyone could help then id really appreciate it :-)
 
Depends what kind of breeder he came from I guess..as you say, if a stallion is left to run with mares indiscriminately its possible...one of my youngsters was born at the end of aug...so late ish...breeder remembered date so passported him accordingly...but stallion had been running out with the previous year so hence he was later than most.
 
problem i have is i dont know where he came from, he was just with a load of coloured cob yearlings who looked a lot older than my one.
 
:-) that has just made me feel a whole load better lol he is looking more yearling now, he looked so young that i couldn't believe that he was at least 7 months when he arrived (it was his head and tail more than anthing lol). maybe i will just have to give him an 'official' birthday then xx
 
It could have been a combination of very late covering and very overdue mare. Perhaps if she was very underweight? I had a late August filly that always looked a year younger than her peers. November seems a bit extreme. Perhaps a late September foal or October foal will look younger than it is due to missing out on decent grass by the time it gets nibbling properly.

I saw a Connemara stallion at stud ad yesterday. The ad was just a day old. What is that all about?
 
Friends of mine bought a sec c mare at Brightwells, June time a few yrs ago. She popped out a foal between xmas and new year so mare wld have been covered end of Jan time. Just given advice on feeding a mare imported fromIreland who is due to foal in next couple of months...
 
My boy was born in October... natural covering etc but completely unexpected... Stally got two mares the same week by the looks of it as he had a brother born a few days apart...

Remind me of his stud book name? One of my mares was a late foal, CB stallion could jump fences!!!
