My pony is having problems with his breathing - called the vet out and he said allergy. Pony lives out all year round and I thought pollen season was over.
He has only ever had one breathing problem before this and that was when he escaped from the summer field into the winter field and ate alot of grass.
He is now permantly in the winter fields which have lots of grass as they have been rested for along time - prior to this he was in the summer field which did not have much grass.
Could overeating be causing his breathing to be bad - as I cannot think what could be in the winter fields that are not in the summer fields other than more grass. To get to the yard he has always had to walk through the winter fields as they are next door to each other so if it was pollen I would have thought it would have been in both fields or he would have been exposed to when walking through the winter fields to the yard.
Vet said he does not have laminitis and he is now on ventipulmin to see if that clears it up. I can't keep him in as he does not stable - jumps out.
This is the first time he has been on such nice long grass since I have had him and he has been at the yard since mid July with no problems. Prior to that he was at another yard and had no breathing problems but I moved him as he needed to live out all year.
