Hi

I have arranged with the Sosath Stud in Germany (home to Landor S/Quarterback/Sandro boy Jnr etc...) to visit as I am seriously considering using "Stedinger" for 2009. I know the stud in located in Lemwerder Nr Bremmen.

I just wondered if anyone on here had visited the stud before, and if so, could they please suggest which would be the best way of getting there ie. Fly or drive,(and if fly, which airport???), and any cheap accommadation in the local area.
I don't mind slumming it a bit as I dont want to turn the trip into a huge expense.

Many thanks in advance

Hi

I visited Sosaths yard last Feb as I was also interested in using Stedinger. We flew into Bremen and drove(got a lift from Lisa from Elite Stallions) as she was also visiting. We stayed in Verden and it wsn't too far from there.

He has a lovely yard. The horses are all immaculate and very polite stallions. When you see Stedinger in the flesh he is absolutely huge. I really liked him but owing to his size and the fact that it was my mares first foal i decided against using him this year. I've also had mixed reports on his off-spings temprements which slightly put me off. A friend has a filly by him born this year and she is lovely. Anastasia on here has also had a filly by him.

We went over to Germany in Feb last year and also went to the Hanovarian stallion show in Vechta which was fantastic and then we seen and Schockemohle stallion parade all in the same weekend. It was great!!

Hope you have a great time

I also went over in February and stayed in Munster Handorf as we combined our trip with the Trakehner stallion show, and some stallion shows in Vechta, as well as trips to some of the studs in the area.

We always seem to get good deals with flights using either Ryan Air or Air Berlin, depending which airport you fly to, and then hire a car at the airport. For accomodation I just do a google and normally manage to book something resonable on line

Stedinger himself gives me mixed feelings. Until this summer he never seemed to have progressed in his training but I know he is now out at PSG, and his temperament seems to be coping with the stress of competing better. Have to say I am always struck by photos of his offspring from a range of mares, all very leggy and very attractive, and I do like his dam line

Thankyou for the info. I've found some amazingly cheap flights with RyanAir this afternoon so will be heading over in feb.
The main reason for going is that I am still not 100% sure whether Stedinger is what I want. I think its difficult to asess properly without actually seeing a horse. But will also google any other stallion parades and local studs for the same time.(would love to see some of the Trakhener Stallions

As Chevs said we have a Stedinger filly, she is out of a Prince Thatch x Wenzel I Hano mare. Sadly she only has one eye as she had an accident when just two weeks old, but this does not stop her in any way.

The Prince Thatch mare is only just over 16hh and Stedinger has definately given the filly more length. She is very well put together and moves beautifully. Temperament wise she can is generally sweet, but can be quite hot at times.

If using Stedinger I would use him on a smaller compact mare and one which has a very quiet temperament.

Ahh this is so difficult. I really like Stedinger but there are loads of Pros and Cons. (I want the match to be the best it can be). Bascically....

Pros
- High scores in dressage and jumping
- Adds height
- Adds length of leg
- Will refine the mare, as she is (as AnaTINSELtasia said) 16.0hh and put togther quite compactly

Cons
- Time and again I have had mixed reports Re: this horse's nature
- The mare (although could do with a bit more oommpphh, has been known to have a slighty unpredictable temperment).

So before I decide on my accommadation choices for the trip, are there any other better stallions in the Bremen area that would refine, add height, leg length and blood with more even temprement than Stedinger. (Preferably not a grey though
