Could this be a sarcoid?

I don't know whether anyone will remember, but a while ago I posted about a bald patch above Grace's right eye. I didn't manage to get a photograph of it and then when I finally did I couldn't find the post

When the vet came to see her mud rash a few months ago, they said the bald patch above her eye could be the beginnings of a sarcoid and to keep my eye on it. So I bought some Sacrid Salve, and am just starting to apply that every day. Also, I have noticed that when she has been untacked she rubs that eye on the wall, so this could also be what is causing the baldness. But the vet did say it could be a sarcoid so it has made me paranoid about it now!

So, here are some photos of it:

Does look like a rub, is there a bit of swelling too. My sisters pony had this when she bourght him, turned out he had sweet itch and it was old rub marks, it all cleared up once he had a boet..

There is no swelling at all... but the skin is a bit scaly.

She has never had sweet itch as I have bought her from her breeder... her brother has it, but Grace has never suffered at all.

They do sometimes start as bald patches I'm afraid, but only time will tell. If it develops don't leave it as they spread into more than one as ours did.
I think this may be a rub though, so treat it as that for now. If it goes lumpy it probably is a sarcoid..
our mare is now at the stage of a really tiny one is all tha's left, and that should go after the next treatment. it's cost me almost £1500.....(vets visits and the liverpool cream injected into them..)

That was how my big horses started, ended up like this:

The only thing that worked on his was 6 months of BCG injections, has been all gone now for months.
I guess all you can do is wait. Has your vet ruled out a carcenoma (SP?)? These are slightly more serious and can be similar, can be differentiated by looking inside the eye at the 3rd eyelid.

I must say you are taking the sarcoid possibility very calmly. I found two possibles on a pony I had and scared myself to death over them. A vet said leave them for now and I left them but gave the pony thuja and echinacea and they disappeared. I am sure they were sarcoids, but were the slightly raised disc type with very fine hair on. They were in his armpit and just under his chest.

I do hope that it is a harmless nothing. You have had a real sinkful of it lately!

Thuja is a homeopathic remedy for warts and scaly growths. Also works on verrucas etc. Hope its not a sarcoid, but there are a few really effective treatments available now. OR put her in foal, II know of loads of people whose mares sarcoids cleared up when they had babies!
