We have a 21 year old welsh cob on our yard. He had a bout of laminitis earlier in the year and has had a long time off, and, is now completely clear of symptoms.
I have been riding said cob for 20 mins every other day for the last fortnight to get him gently back into the swing of things, for his owner, who is very novice.
For the last two days he has had a swelling on the inside of his near hind leg about 10cm below the hock going halfway down the inside of the cannon bone with noticeable heat. I can find no evidence of any injury, and he does not seem particularly sensitive in that area. A thumb press leaves no imprint so I am confident it's not fluid or infection. He has been slightly short on that leg for the two days.
I advised the owner to cold hose twice a day and stable bandaged for her to see if it resolves itself. Anyhow today was still the same so I have recommended she speak to her vet about it.
He'll probably be out tomorrow or the day after but I am just foxed by it!
Could it possibly be a splint forming? It's really starting to bug me lol!
Any experiences/suggestions welcome!
