Twiggy (14.2hh tbx) is my 5 year old, her flastwork has been coming on really well recently, even been starting lateral work! :D But whenever we go into canter she gets really fast and tense and starts to buck :/
At first i thought this was just a baby thing, you know like she was testing the boundaries a bit, but it just keeps on coming and its stopping us from really doind any canter work at all :| walk and trot is really nice; slow, relaxed and in an outline most of the time, except during transitions, which we are working on.
so the other night i felt her saddle ( which we had fitted about 4 months ago when i got her) and it feels very tight around her shoulders, i can hardly get my fingers between the saddle and her shoulders.
So do you think that this could be making her buck? As she has filled out a bit since i've had her and is now working into the cotact rather than just running around with her head in the air.
Have phoned the saddler but he hasnt got back in touch so hopefully we will get him out soooon :)
thanks for reading any opinions would be appreciated! :) xxxxxxx

I think it's highly likely that the saddle is pinching her. My highland did the same thing when he was younger, whenever we tried to go into canter, he would buck and go into a fast trot. Once his saddle was changed he improved, except for the occaisional handstand. I had a saddle made to measure for him and he promptly changed shape. He's now in a Wintec GP with cair system.

Could be, definitley get it checked. Also whats she like without the saddle? Have you tried lunging or riding bareback? Could be her back if not the saddle?

Almost certainly the bucking is being caused by her change in shape making the fit of the saddle unsuitable. Going into canter is the most common time for a badly fitting saddle to cause problems.
Hope your saddle fitter can check soon for you.

thanks for the advice. looks like it is the saddle as i had her in a friends saddle yesterday and she was just a different pony! So much more forward going and didnt buck once! :D
I feel like such an idiot now for not realising it was hurting her :( stupid mummy!! :(
