Could this scar be covered for showing...??

Hi everyone,

My horse fractured his leg last year, and is now left with an awful scar from the bandages (sorry the picture isn't very good because of all the mud!!) but you can see it on his front leg above his knee.. its quite long.

I was wondering if we'd ever be able to show again? He used to do lots of in hand showing but I don't know how much the scar would effect the scoring??

Any tips would be great, thanks! x

You can get some spray makeup to cover scars. The bottom line is..... It depends on the judge. Mine cleaned up at a big local show as a two year old. Then as a three year old in the same class with a different judge she was marked down because of blemishes. Most frustrating! The judge said that they all have things they think is important and for her it was about totally clean legs. So subjective...
 
You can buy horse make up for covering blemishes and scars. I am not sure whether or not it would cover a bad scar but probably worth a try. We bought some for our bay to cover a couple of bald patches caused by some over zealous play with the other geldings and it worked really well. I cant remember who it it was made by but we got it at Ingatestone Saddlery so is probably on their website.
 
Agree it depends on the judge-
Many horses up here do very well despite scars from obvious accidents. One horse had been in a fire and largish areas of his rump were discoloured and scarred/ white hairs, never stopped him doing top 3 at most shows because he went so well.
Similarly another horses had a cancerous growth removed from his forearm, leaving a large lump and scar, he still won again because he went so well and was in pristine condition.
My friend had a cracking show hack which mangled his hock in the field. Although sound the scarring was huge- covered the entire hock, and nothing could hide it. He never did aswell showing afterward and every judge said the same thing- if the other animal is unblemished and goes aswell as him, he would need to come second.

You could just try some show and see. I don't know if hiding it is a good idea- it can draw attention to it if not done well.
