I'll set the scene - frozen roads, black ice everywhere and country lanes on slopes. The ice was bad - our 4X4 was slipping, other people in small cars had got stuck. We were driving home after doing the horse to see 3 ponies and traps coming along the road. Not a single horse had boots on, no-one was wearing hats, they must have had a death wish.
Why would people do this? Surely you would have the sense not to take your ponies and traps out in this weather??

(rant over)

Despite the snow, ice, cr@p weather the the other day I was shocked when one of the liveries came back - from a hack! Considering that most vehicles were struggling and her horse has only just been brought back into work from months of being on ox rest lame! o.o
So yes, I can believe it.
I think anyone that rides outside an arena in this weather is a little crazy to say the least!

We have snow and ice over here and there is riders passing my house almost every day on their ways out on hacks. Don't you have those metal things to put in horses shoes that makes it safe to ride on ice in UK?

But if you think back to when horses were used for transport, this must have happened all the time. Boots aren't going to offer much protection against a serious accident. Maybe some people don't believe the world grinds to a halt after a few snowflakes?
