Hi - brought Harry the lurcher home on Sat; all going well so far (fingers crossed) ..Anyway we left him for a couple of hours in the kitchen today and cleared all the worktops, left him with kong etc etc ..anyway he was very good and seemed to cope well, no chewing or anything, however he had actually jumped right up onto the worktop (lots of things disturbed on the window sill / the window blind had been tampered with and there were scratches and hair up on the worktop) I'm guessing the stimulous was to look out of the window (he's not really a foodie yet) .. I'm not so worried about being on the worktop as such, but it's quite a leap (up and down) and he's recently had a sore lower back. Any ideas how to discourage this...??

Can you booby trap the counter in some way - not to hurt of course but maybe something to make a noise and startle him? Maybe put some stones in an empty tin and balance it so that if he jumps up it will fall off and make a scary noise?
