Not really hunting, but near as...

Just been watching an item about deer in Epping forest. Talking about how healthy the population is, when Julia B says in a semi-whisper to the keeper "are we talking about the 'c' word".

No, Dear HHO reader, not that one. Tskk. She meant that filthy word 'culling' - as if thinning out the Bambi numbers was the something almost too horrific to mention before the watershed.

FGS! This used to be a serious programme for people who live in, love and understand the countryside! Not Blue Peter for those who like their steaks washed, sanitised and shrink-wrapped without having to remember it came from a moo-cow.

Thanks for the opportunity to vent.

PS Love Adam's items about his farm, though...

Bunny and bambi brigade! Dont you just love them!

Well, it's just that the further the general public gets from understanding where meat comes from, how it's grown and slaughtered and why it's done that way, the less they will also understand the environment it is raised in. Which cannot be good news for the countryside.

I don't think they want to know tbo, they prefer life with blinkers on.

Hopefully she will be packed off on maternity leave soon.

Adam is fantastic, though if I see one more "extreme sports" section I shall scream.

They seem to either do decent episodes ( a few weeks ago I think..) or utter rubbish like last nights. Why they can't have an even mix every week I don't know.

Also, that Wong bloke should be ditched as well...

That blasted Bradbury woman had us all cringing. Perhaps spend less time fawning about and more time on a bit of serious reporting love.

Oh and definitely more Adam!!

Is it just me thinking that a Farmer Adam fan club should be set up ;)

Well, seeing as he farms the Cotswold Farm Park, you could always do one of their monthly fun rides and you might catch a glimpse...;)

(Just realised that poor Adam might now have to run from a pack of fans on ggs galloping at him)

Quite tragically I did do one of the fun rides last year

(It was terrible - You DONT want to go - ;) ITS MINE ALL MINE!!!!)

And Mum spotted Adam and came rushing into the horsebox to tell me!!!

Countryfile is a load of bunnie tosh now! Its just a shame they dont have the weather on at the same time - I know its always near the end - but usually have to watch some tosh to get to it....

Know what you mean about 'extreme sports' - Honestly, I have been swinging from trees and sploshing about in rivers since birth - its nothing special!!!

The thing is, it's the only dedicated programme on television on the subject so it really should tackle topics like hunting, conservation, estate management, gamekeeping etc and its effect on the countryside both past and present. But it seems it's not brave enough.

A great shame and a missed opportunity methinks.

Absolutely - As:- burgers, casseroled, roasted, Chilli con coney (rabbit mince), toppings on a pizza or in the case of rabbit leg, boned and stuffed with black pudding
Must stop... getting hungry

I think a lot of the problem has to do with the style of presenting of one or two of the presenters.

More of Adam please - he says it as it is. Uses the slaughter word, and offends no one.

I agree, CF is totally pants now and seems to be aimed at fluffy townies. We only have it on for the forecast these days.

Also agree that Adam is great and would recommend his fun rides, the country is absolutely stunning and I have seen him about there once or twice! The farm park itself is also a fab place to take your kids, I went when I was a kid and now take my own.

It always WAS pretty much pants! I haven't bothered to watch it in years so it may well have got worse (God forbid!) I recall that whenever I arranged a CF visit to a hunt I had to warn them they would almost certainly have sabs (even though they NEVER got them!) as CF would invite them along for 'balance'!

I suppose that Country file has a use, in that it's the closest that many will come to an understanding of livestock farming.

That said, do you remember the live lambing programme, when Kate Humble was in floods of tears over the loss of a lamb? Adam then chipped in, and if he'd been in my lambing yard, then I'd have given him the job of making the tea.

Heavily in-lamb ewes don't need someone who's quite so animated. It might be good telly, but it winds up relaxed and lambing ewes to a point where he would be a liability. I dread to think what he's like around his foaling mares!!

Don't forget though that he is also a commercial scale farmer who, with his business partner Duncan Andrews, is cropping more than 3500 acres.

Shame Countryfile doesn't also focus on this side of the business.
