I'm just looking at some costs for shavings however some people are a little awkward in putting the amount of shavings in a bag in litres and not kg!

so looking at these shavings how many kg do you think is in here? http://www.countrywidefarmers.co.uk/pws/ProductDetails.ice?ProductID=3983

or even better does anyone use these shavings? And how big a bed do you make from them? Do they cover a floor or make a bank? Are they quite fluffy?

Annoys me too! I often try and compare prices but its impossible with bedding.

I have used them and I really quite liked them. There does seem to be a lot in a bale. The green bags are better than the purple although im not sure what the actual difference is!
I found them less fluffy than some brands which I like as the poo tended to sit on rather than get buried in the bed.

Thank you! Last questions.....how many did you use a week? And what stable/bedding system were you on?
Thank you :)

I use them sometimes and the weight does seem to vary a bit but I'd guess at approx 25kg, they certainly always seem heavier than bedmax which I think are 20kg.

Countrywide ones aren't fluffy though if that's what you're looking for. Believe the difference between the green & purple varieties is down to the type of wood. I've tried both and found no real difference except that the green is 50p a bale more.

If buying countrywide shavings and keeping them outside...... which isn't uncommon; then bear in mind that the plastic bags containing them are as useless as a nun in a punch-up IME. Sorry can't remember whether it was the "Green" or "Purple" varieties, but as soon as I looked at the things they started coming undone and the contents spilling out. Not that it matters for me, because I keep them under cover. But out of a total of ten bags I bought, at least half of them came undone. Woman at local countrywise shop was as helpful as a Rottweiller with a fluffy toy.
