Hello,

I'm hoping to get out and compete in the future, but I'm completely clueless. I was just wondering what societies/associations do you need to be registered with in order to compete in affiliated showing? I know you should be registered with the BSPS, but that's all I've managed to find out.

P.S. I'm planning to compete in ridden M&M (Welsh B) and also Part-bred Arab classes.

You don't need to belong to any societies to compete ay County level. However, your pony must be fully registered in the appropriate breed stud book. If you want to qualify for Championship shows, then you may need to join the NPS or BSPS or any number of other Societies

This. As a welsh B, as long as you have full green passport, you are able to enter registered M&M classes.

If you think you have a top of the line pony, you ought to consider joining the NPS and BSPS, and also registering the pony to compete in whichever championships you are wanting to contend. The owner must be a member and the pony have its competition record card in the ring to be able to qualify for that governing body's championship.

Do you have 2, as you mentioned PB Arabs too? If so, that's likely yet another lot of memberships for different championships.

Good luck and have fun.

FYI you cannot do the M&M and the PBA class with the same pony.

For county shows you need to have a look at the individual show and see what the classes are a qualifier for, some will require certain memberships in order to qualify, some wont. If you can get hold of this/last years schedule for the shows you want to attend, the qualifiers don’t tend to change that much year on year. Or let us know which county shows you are thinking about and we can help guide you.

For M&M classes you must have a fully registered pony in the main section of the stud book. So in this case pony must be registered as a purebred section B with the WPCS.

My biggest suggestion is to go watch some of the classes you want to do at at county shows.

local to county level is a HUGE step up. Even if you constantly win at local level do not expect to get a rosette at county level.
The M&M classes are generally huge and very buzzy! So be prepared for that.
