Course pics of Burgie

hehe the 2 day novice!!!

Well I did it last year and it is BIG, but built beautifully and rides well if you're brave and kick on! I had to retire due to lack of brakes so then went to Aldon 2 day later in the year which was MUCH smaller, like half the size, and had much smaller chase fences!

It shared a lot of the fences with the CCI* and not very many with the one day novice which I thought was quite odd. Did get concerned when Ian Stark came down to our BBQ saying "have you seen that 2 day Novice track, its bigger than the 1 star at Blair!! The water was an owl hole, 1 stride to a house in and then up a bank to a log on top which was the same as the CCI* umm the brush corners which were 1 of the most influencial CCI* fences were in it ummm quite an upright down hill coffin, a log ontop of a hill down to an angled skinny (where we seriously ran out of brakes and crashed and burned!) Will have a think.....

Good event though, I did the course photos for eventingworldwide.com so they're on there.

It was a great event though, we had a CCI* and CCI** there so were there all week, the parties aren't what they used to be becuase of the * and ** having XC days on the Fri and Sat it means there isnt' really a party night anymore but what a beautiful place!

Not sure if this link works but this is us really crashing!!

http://www.photographeronthe.net/grossic...399&pid=352 - last 2 on that page then first lot on the next!

I have so many photos of burgie at home, but none on a computer, the only ones i have are the CCI** from last year and even then it was just the one fence where i was fence judging!

Hope your fall wasn't too sore!

This year all xc is on sat and sun. The timetable is a lot better this year so if they get the entries then it should be a really good event. The timetable is the best i've seen in quite a few years.

I haven't been up the hill in a few years (didn't make either events last year) so i can't tell you what would be in the 2day. But other 2days are so far from us.

No fall was ok, it was a long drive home - 11hrs but the other was 5th in the CCI** so made up for it!!

It actually was a turning point in our XC riding, realised we could jump BIG tracks and that we needed to sort out bitting - in hindsight it was the chase that totally blew his brains but we sorted it all and minus the fall it was a fab week.

I loved being up there, would go again although think just thirlestane and blair this time!

I was up the hill on Sunday. There is a massive pile of logs at the top, so perhaps they are about to start some new jumps. Ground is ok at the mo, but drying up fast!!!
No pictures Im afraid but we have a training day booked with Polly in two weeks so if I get any scoop I shall pass it on.

Where you at MRC hunter trials? Where you riding? I can't wait to get my new horse out and about and do some cross country. Now my dad's not on the Burgie Committee I no longer get all the gossip, but being a man he wasn't very good with gossip any way though lol!

Have fun at the training day, are you doing the 3DE?

there are photos on here of last years about half way down the list june 16,17,18

I have photo's as well if you want to see more, PM if you want to see them.
I will be jump judging on sat but not on sun because want to see some of the showjumping.

Yeh I was at the mrc cross country. It was a good day very warm.
No wasn't riding. We were doing some cross country the other week and he wouldnt canter down hill so I got his back looked at and he was a bit sore, so he has been getting lots of money I dont have spent on him to sort this out, so no cross country or fast work for a wee bit.
Nope not doing the 3 day either. he's very green so it would all be a bit too much for us, fingers crossed next year if we can ever sort out my fear of show jumps!!

Thanks people

Will have a look for those pics.

sw123 - You havent filled me with any confidence at all!

I did the 1 day N last year and found it was the easiest Novice Ive done! But I also looked at that horrid fence (your first photo) of that huge log with MASSIVE ditch under it coming back into the main field, and that other one you mention - the big brush corner at the far end of the course - that sent chills down me too! But these were the only 2 I saw, didnt look at the rest of the 2 day course.

I just cannot decide what to do. If those 2 fences werent in it then Id do it! But they really scare me, but then again maybe my horse would be fine...... Im just worried Ill enter and then have a freak out when I come to walk the course and wish Id just entered the 1 day again.

toots - have PM'd you. Yes, if you could do some digging from Polly about what the 2 day course will be like this year (and especially if these 2 fences are in it), Id kiss your feet!

The ditch and log always rides really! (Apart from my sister when she ended up in it still on the horse, shouldn't have told you that

) If it ha caused any problems then i would have been taken out of the course. You have done really well in your one days so far, I really can't see you having a problem.

Thanks Kirsty. I just think its my nerves - Im fine at 1 day level, but the thought of coming into that ditch n log.....! I think my horse probably would jump it fine but I am a bit more dubious about that brush corner thingy which I thought was huge especially as my boy always jumps OVER the brush stuff (never through it - dumb ass!).

I just worry Im going to ride my boy badly!

Is the steeplechase big as well (keeping in mind the bit above about how my boy jumps brushes)? And whats the dressage like? We no good at Stressage!

Should I or shouldnt I??????

The dressage was nice, they had a long arena with 2 judges etc (see at Aldon they had a normal arena with 1 judge, like at Great Witchingham - seems a bit odd!) but it was next to where the 1 day novice did their test just had a few more flowers.

Chase fences are the fences they used to use for the CCI*/** so proper ones rather than the smaller PN3DE version you get at Great Witch/Aldon. I didn't enjoy the chase becasue my horse just took off with me but the fences jump fine.

Trying to think of the course....

Started over a brush thing that was shared with */**, up thehill to castle thing, then 2 steps to a roll top, turn to a wall with a drop behind, a barrel/box thing, then the drop off (my pic) to a skinny on a turn, down to a big table thing with brush on top, the trakehener (that jumps really well!), turn to a house thing, a wall with brush behind, then the one where i'm falling off (!), a saw bench, those brush corners, ummmm a coffin, then i get lost!!!

Those 2 fences will be fine, and if you've done the 1day and found it fine then this is just a bit bigger and no problem, definitely a course for bold riding and if you're happy to do that then you'll love it!!! I don't think it actually caused that many problems although lots of people did say they may as well have done an Intermediate to qualify!!! Seemed silly it was so much bigger than other N2D's but gave it more of a sense of occasion and acheivment.
