We are currently offering a full 10 week Equine Digestion and Nutrition Continuing Professional Development (CPD) course starting this week at a cost of £499.00.

This course is more in depth than the free one that was offered in the Spring of 2013.

It is run by the same person, Dr Jo-Anne Murray, with guest lecturers who are experts in their field.

There are no entry requirements and you would have access to all the on-line materials which include, presentations, notes, videos, live tutorials and discussion boards with one-to-one tutor input.

Places are limited and will be on a first come first served basis.

We hope to offer some of our other courses in this format in 2014; for example, Equine Behaviour and Welfare; Equine Reproduction, Equitation Science, and Equine Exercise Physiology.



I was hoping that they would run something similar for free as there is no way I would pay that sort of money for an online course for no real qualifications. :(
 
I did the free one and really enjoyed doing it. I would be prepared to pay for a more in depth course but more like £50 rather than £500. Shame. I do it out of interest rather than in a professional capacity.
 
I've actually ended up enrolled in the Master's course after having done the Coursera course. For me, I used the Coursera course as a taster, giving me an idea of whether I could fit additional study around my work. For me it is professionally relevant though, not just out of interest - so if I hadn't gotten on the Master's I would have considered the CPD, as a proper CPD course from a vet school like the Dick would look very good on an equine CV.
 
I also thought of doing the masters but have too much on this year. May apply next year. Would be interested to hear how you find it. Out of interest do you have a biological first degree? I don't but have a maths degree but not sure if I would get accepted. They did say they would consider me depending on my horse experience.

Yeah, my first degree was Preclinical Veterinary Medicine with Natural Sciences, so it follows on quite nicely. Plus I have horse experience and work in the industry. I think it's definitely worth applying with a maths degree, particularly if you did well, if you have horse experience - just write a spiel about how the course relates to your interests. Will let you know how I get on - this year is turning out pretty busy for me too, so will see how many units I do this year, thankfully it's very flexible! Very excited though.

And yes, the MOOCs are free, amandap. However, the university will be doing the MOOCs partly to try and encourage people to pay for further study - it's a classic marketing method.

Thanks. Yes, I'm sure they hope to generate students willing to pay for further study, fair enough these days I think. It's a great course for a free one imo.
 
I really enjoyed it. The forums were great too. It was really interesting reading about how people from round the world manage and feed their horses. Great for asking questions too.
