I've never heard this before, but my American friend and also my house mate reckon that dogs are lactose intolerant and so milk is bad for them??

Are they talking rubbish or am i being dense??

My dogs don't really have milk but my mums dogs have a bit of cereal for breakfast and we used to have hound puppies and they had a load of milk (my dad's a milkman so they had all the left overs) and it never did them any harm!

I've heard its not right for them, but only as much as its not right for us either. Some get upset tummy many don't. It won't kill them I guess... they are not designed to have it

we're all supposed to have raw fruit and veg and soem raw meat, not a lot, and lots of fibrous stuff, and starve a bit... but we don't!

I know farmers feed excess from milking time but mine don't have dairy products(intolerence) and on the list above dairy products are on there...

I used to give my old staff a dish of milk every other day. All my dogs have a cube of cheese at bed time as well. Oh by the way staffie was 16yr when he died so i guess it never did him any harm. I think i must be a terrible pet owner because mine seem to eat everything that people say are bad for them.

MIne has a bit of milk/cheese from time to time.

My vet did tell me to not give him milk as a puppy on the grounds that if he needed cows milk, he would have been born a calf!!!

I'm actually lactose intolerant, so I eat goat and sheep yoghurt, cheese and milk, instead of cow's, so that's what Stella gets as well. She goes nuts for a teaspoon of yoghurt!

I think my dog is intolerant. Gave him the leftover milk from my brekkie cereal once, the next morning I awoke to runny s**t everywhere. He had managed to miss the tiled and wooden floor in the kitchen and living room and shat all over the brand new carpet in the dining room

Hence, I wouldn't dare give him milk again.

I think tolerance levels vary from dog to dog.

all dogs are lactose intolerant but many dont suffer from having it, same as cats, which is why you can buy cat milk in pet shops as it has all the bits they dont need taken out, my dogs dont get any dairy products at all coz they simply dont need it.
