Crab flies, do they have a season?

So despite being some distance from the forest we seem to have acquired a few! Resulting in one horse in particular being a nightmare (I don't think Frank is bothered ).

I haven't encountered them before but do they have a season? Will they die soon!?

There are still a few about (we're in the forest) its been too mild to see them off. They will disappear when it gets colder. Even outside the boundary of the forest they can turn up usually as passengers on other horses that have visited for a hack.

Oh good, we are are up east of salisbury so assume they have been travelling up on the deer as we do have a lot of them visiting. First time the yard has had them though.

I am in the Forest - Crabbies arrive here late Spring, and theybhave almost gone now ....... horrid little critters!

They've only just made it up here! been fine all summer which is why it does seem a little odd.

Nearly gone although there are few clinging on and scuttling around still.
