my tb is not shod , has had crack in hoof on left fore , farrier seen trimmed feet ect nt causing a problem , will grow out , emd of last week came
In frOm field lame , heat around Pastern and fetlock , rested and poulticed to rule out abcess , vet out monday still lame pain on hoof testers on the crack swelling greatly reduced , advised poultcing and rest
For a couple of days and bute , fast forward to Thursday nothing really much on poultice ,
Leg swollen overnight !!!! Goes down in the day still lame , spoke
To vets bute over wkend and then see again next week if still lame , just asking of any one else has had problems with cracks in hoofs / lameness , thinking of putting front shoes back on x

Can you post photos please , there are some on here who are pretty good at this sort of thing. And there are casts as well which I have heard about, not sure if they are relevant, but is is worth looking at all options.

Has the farrier cut away some horn on the ground surface so that the pressure is relieved. Could just be that the crack is opening each time the horse puts its foot to the ground.

I'd get the farrier to have a look. Poulticing may not have drawn any pus but that doesn't mean it isn't an abcess & the leg swelling can be part of one too. Or as Tnavas said it may be that the crack is under pressure when he walks. Until you've identified the problem though putting shoes on will at best only hide it & may not make any difference anyway.

If the farrier can't find anything either & still doesn't think it's the crack then I'd get the vet back out & maybe consider a more thorough lameness examination &/or x-rays.
