my pony is shod on the front and he's a week over due for shoeing. i only got him a month ago and our farrier is due this monday. last week i noticed his front hoof has split along the clenches. is it ok to ride him or should i wait until the farrier has been? he's not lame.

If it was tiny cracks along the nail holes I might but if it looks as though big chunks of hoof might break away I wouldn't as it would make it harder to get the shoes on next time.

If the shoes are loose it would be better not to ride. Otherwise just short rides should be fine as long as you dont do too much fast work or ride on rough terrain
