I have noticed a little crack going across my boys front hoof. Nothing too deep but has a ridge to it. The farrier metioned it the other day but wondered why this happens, its on the outside of the hoof. What would be the best course of action?

Thanks

if its near the top it could easy be where a small abcess has come through at the coronet band and started to grow down. I have one particular TB who manages to cut little chunks out of his hooves on steeplechase fences so needs to wear overreach boots all-round!

If the farrier hasn't cut anything off it (ie thinking there is infection underneath) just clean it regualrly and otherwise stop worrying!!
