I have been plastering on hand cream this winter to try and avoid cracked hand .. But I have a crack on the tip of my thumb :( the split is so sore :/ .. And I need to use my thumb ! How do I avoid this happening every winter ? I wear gloves .. Dry my hands with a towel if they get wet .. And the hand cream of course .. What am I doing wrong ?

Red Horse products are developing a new hand cream. I trialled it and it's very very good. Cleared up the crack on my thumb within days and smells georgeous - cinnamon and orange.
Disclaimer: I have nothing to do with the company.

If you tend to have skin that does crack and gets chapped like mine do I suggest you, purchase a pair of cotton gloves from a chemist, and use either BodyShop Hemp cream or epaderm at night and put the gloves on to let it all soak in. Vaseline is another good thing to use.

I second hemp cream from the body shop, a hairdresser told me about it, obviously her hands are always in water and get sore, and she spoke highly of it. My boyfriend's hand are always in water in his job and his hands get soooo sore, and this works a treat!!

I'm suffering with the same and we've not had it as cold as most years - think the wet doesn't help either at the moment. One on one thumb keeps re-opening it's quite deep and hurts like hell. I'm trying to get as much handcream on as possible but not always conducive to keep slathering it onto the keyboard and phone at work or the horse's stuff! I used to use the Body Shop hand rescue cream which is almond oil based - found it very effective. This year I'm just using my handcream Xmas presents as all my good friends give me load of handcream types to get my horrible hands though the winter! I also have cracked soles right at my heels :(

O'Keeffes working hands.

I started a similar thread not so long back, got told about O'keeffes, read up about it, bought some, and my hands haven`t split since. Got FIL some, as he`s suffered with it terribly for years, and it`s sorted his out too .... Bloody EPIC stuff :D

I too suffer with cracked hands. I do as suggested above and pile on loads of cream whilst laid in bed at night and either wear gloves or just cover in cream and go to sleep. It has helped massively as during the day it gets washes/rubbed off easily and then no benefit.
If I have a crack I oil my hands... with anything oil based or lipsalve!

I usually have loads of splits on the end of my fingers in winter but luckily I only have one at the moment . I try and remember to use hand cream as much as possible but still get splits . Mine go very deep and bleed profusely when I catch them and are incredibly painful . I use brush on nail glue in the split(currently use Elegant Touch nail glue £2.50-Superdrug, doesn't sting , though some do ) , it helps it heal as it can't split more when you catch it . It stops it hurting at all unless the split is huge but will reduce the pain . I have also used superglue in the past when the agony got too much and I had nothing else .

I wear surgical gloves inside my yard gloves this winter. I put hand cream on first. This is the first winter my hands aren't cracked and rough. :)
