When i bought my filly last year it looked like she had a touch of craked heels which i subsequently treated with zinc and castor oil cream which worked and they came OK, but with the scabs off, revealed what looked like a scar.

Now it seems like if i dont cream her heels reguarly, scales appear on the "scar", with cream you can rub them off. I wondered if there was some residual skin problem and also treated with hibiscrub, making no difference. Do you think this is a scar, or craked heels?

Hi. It could be caused by feather mites. Kelsi had something similar and I originally thought it was mud fever. Is your horse itching or stamping her legs? We treated the mites with Frontline.

No, she isnt itchy or anything, and has only a tuft of feather, can you see feather mites?
