Hi All
Can anyone recommend a hoof supplement that has good results for a cracked hoof. I think the boy has had it some time and definitely came over from Ireland with it. I've had him nearly a year and , although i think it has improved with quality feeding I just want to step up my regime to give it the best chance of coming right. I have an excellent farrier who 's keeping it all as good as poss , but what else can I do. It's just a surface crack ( I hope??!!) he's not been lame or unsound in any way and is hacking and jumping fine. The vetting he had in Ireland recorded that this crack would not impede his soundness but I would like to put it as right as I can.. sorry about the ramble x

Big vote here for Formula4Feet, did a very good job on my grey mare who had the most neglected, appalling cracked feet, could literally see a big improvement in the quality in a month and farrier was surprised at the difference; took over six months to say they weren't the same feet he had seen at the start and could stop feeding it. Well worth the money IMHO.

Are his toes too long or are his feet correctly balanced ?

My farrier says that sometime in his past ( he's just turned 7 , the horse , not farrier ) his feet have been left too long or badly balanced and this front has just gone over at the edge and injured the coronary band , His feet are now well balanced ( my farrier is a remedial one anyway ) but my boy doesn't need remedial shoeing or anything , he tends to balance the foot so that the inside edge takes up a bit more of the weight to take the pressure off the outside edge if you get my meaning...it does seem to be getting better but i'm looking for some advice on a good supplement to boost some growth of really good horn.

Well I have a tb mare with dreadful feet and can definitely recommend formula4feet - I used it in exactly the same way as maesfen except hers took 9 months to grow down!!

On the other hand I have now had her on NAF profeet for 3 - 4 months and I think it's better than f4f. The other thing I would suggest is rubbing cornucrescine (the original one in a tub) into the coronet band daily. If the coronet itself is scarred though you will always see a crack in that place I'm afraid.
