What do you all use to stop your horse's lips cracking in the corners? My horse is quite strong and seems to be constantly splittling the corners of his mouth regardless of which bit we use. I've been smearing on loads of vaseline before I ride, but it doesn't seem to help.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as he's done such a good job this time that he'll need a few days off to heal. Gggrr.

I've used glycerine on their tongues before, its meant to soften the whole mouth and tastes sweet so they like it. I've just bought it from the chemists before, cheap as chips :)

Thanks for the replies so far. I've heard of Bit Butter, but thought it might just be an expensive 'horsey version' of vaseline so have never tried it. Has anyone else had success with it?

I'll look into glycerine too, never heard of using that before.

My new horse had a horrible sore mouth when I bought him and his v old loose ring bit that came with him was pinching. Vaseline only made the problem a lot worse. Used the bit butter on corners and side of his cheek and it stopped it pinching. I also used it on the bit. His mouth is now all lovely, soft and sore free.
He does also like licking it out the pot ahem... :)

You can buy nipple Lanasoh cream which aparently is better than Vaseline...
