Think it is probably from standing in all this mud and wet!!!! Sparks has got a crack from an old nail hole, which has run down to the shoe and up to the new nail hole.
She normally has really good feet. She is due to be shod next week, so will check with farrier, but don't think it is going to cause much of a problem.
if in doubt check with farrier as difficult to say if size of crack unknown ... agree that it probably is from wet grounds, my girl has problems with soft soles and abscesses at the moment, I am putting her on Keratex hoof hardener once all is healed to repair the damage done by all the water.
Would suggest you get the farrier out earlier rather than later in case the crack worsens, and may be see if he/she could put a double clipped shoe on to try and stabilise the crack or worse case staple or pin it!! Just a suggestion!
Hi Have you any pics? Cracks can vary quite a bit, and therefore the treatment. Hope there is no lameness, Perhaps you could get a farrier to have a look.
Does he really need to wear shoes? could you try to get him to go barefoot ? Or maybe just let him have a rest from shod feet till the weather improves?
I feed biotin to help with hoof condition.
