Orla today in the PN at Pontispool...

If anyone know the extent of Orla's prep for pontispool you'd be quite shocked!!

She went indoor SJing once back in Jan as prep for B&W 'intro' in March which was rained off, so she didn't go there.. she was then entered for Blackdown Hills intro, which was cancelled due to lack of entries. Then she was entered for the intro at Stockland Lovell 2 weeks ago, but she tied up a week before it, and therefore didn't go.. the plan was 2 intros then a PN, but seeing as she never got those 2 intros, she had to go straight into her first PN having not jumped a SJ since Jan, and not jumped a XC jump since B&W back in Oct. of '06 ..
My heart was about to explode before i went in for the jumping bits (she's not done much jumping anyway)

So, the dressage, this has always been Orla's forte, and she obliged with a score of 31, which although wasn't in the lead, was close enough to it

(she never does any schooling at home!!)

On to the SJing, see if she can remember how to jump over a few nice small practice jumps, and she can

didn't knock any down, but did get a little confused when i put her in deep, so flyers were the order of the day...
She tried her little heart out, having only the 1 fence down, when i saw a bit too much of a flyer and she just tiped the back poll...

On to the XC, we got to the 7th ish fence which was quite a big table type thing, we were going slower and slower (not fit enough!!) and she kinda jumped it up and down, not going forwards, so left her back legs on top of it,

i think this might of scared her a bit, as the next fence, the angled logs she couldn't work out at all (never jumped anything on an angle before) so she pulled herself up here.. i agreed with her, and we decided that it was time to go home!!!

Ok, we retired on the XC, but i was so pleased with how hard she tried.. who knows, the old 'yack' as some people call her could turn out to be something quite nice!!

There were some FAB pics of her there too

You are so bad, why on earth couldn't the poor horse have had a few jumps and a canter or two before going out?! With dressage like that you should be much nicer about her!

not my horse, if it were mine stabled at home, i would have, trust me!!!

The horse belongs to the other half of a guy who has evented to world championship (medal winning) level in the 70s, he's of the old school and says that intro/pn classes shouldn't exist, and that aff. eventing should only be novice/int/adv...
I ride it 3 times a week, and do what i can in a random field, but her owner works a long way away, so is never home to box it up and take it anywhere (plus she has OH telling her not to be a woss, and just get on with it)... so poor horse had to do just that..
I've managed to talk them into droping back down to intro for the next two events, (which in fairness they did try to do at Pontispool, but it was too late)

I haven't, but Socks is in and ready to go, but he has to wait till his half season membership starts (july 1st)..
There wasn't much of a plan with Squeaky, he did his first Novice, and throw his toys out the pram in the middle of the filed, nothing to do with any fences, (which he was jumping as if they were intro hight) so i chucked him out.. he hasn't had a holiday for 2yrs i'd say
